Production shops running CNC lathes are under pressure to do more with fewer hands. Manual bar advancement between parts can cost a shift in lost spindle time, and skilled operators may be hard to find. A reliable CNC lathe bar puller can serve as a direct solution for shops investing in CNC lathe automation.
Accudyne Products is a Colorado-based manufacturer of the EZ-Puller line, the only American-made, patent-protected CNC lathe bar puller built to fit virtually every turning center on the market. We are adding the widest-capacity model yet to our EZ-Puller line: the 3.0 Larger Capacity EZ-Puller (EP-12046).
Read on to learn what sets the 3.0 Larger Capacity EZ-Puller apart, how its cam-and-gripper system works, what stock profiles it handles, and how it mounts on your CNC lathe turret.
The Newest, Widest-Capacity Bar Puller in the EZ-Puller Series
The EZ-Puller line now spans four sizes. The Original EZ-Puller (EP-12044) covers round stock from .093″ to 1.75″, hex from .125″ to 1.375″, and square from .125″ to 1.000″. The Expanded Capacity EZ-Puller (EP-12045) extends round capacity to 2.000″. The new 3.0 Larger Capacity EZ-Puller (EP-12046) goes further still, becoming the widest-range model in the standard EZ-Puller family:
- Round stock: .093″ – 2.750″ (2.4 mm – 69.8 mm)
- Hex stock: .125″ – 1.750″ (6.3 mm – 44.4 mm)
- Square stock: .125″ – 1.000″ (6.3 mm – 25.4 mm)
For shops that need an even larger round capacity and don’t require hex or square pulling, Accudyne’s Heavy Duty model (BEP-1531) covers 1.75″ – 3.25″ round stock.
How the 3.0 Larger Capacity EZ-Puller Works
The 3.0 Larger Capacity EZ-Puller uses Accudyne’s proven cam-and-lifter design: hardened steel grippers and pivot arms advance over the bar stock while internal urethane springs compress and apply reactive force, pulling the bar back with consistent strength regardless of profile shape.
Because the tool unlocks the spindle and orients the bar itself, it does not require an M19 spindle-orientation command, even on hex and square profiles that many competing bar pullers can’t grip without it. Switching between bar sizes only requires changing the “X” destination value in your bar pull subroutine — no wrenches, no mechanical reconfiguration, and no added downtime between changeovers. See our guide on choosing a puller tool for your CNC lathe for more on matching a bar puller to your application.
Spring Durometers for Every Material
Unattended CNC lathe automation has to perform without oversight and without marking the material. The EZ-Puller line uses three urethane spring durometers, each matched to different material requirements:
- 95A (standard/heavy duty). Suited for production runs involving steel and stainless steel.
- 80A (medium duty). Suited for aluminum and most general-purpose stock.
- 70A (light duty). Ideal for thin-wall tubing, delicate alloys, and high-finish materials (maximum pull speed 100 IPM).
Softer durometer springs reduce surface marking without sacrificing pull reliability, while the 95A supports full speed and repeatability on steel and stainless production runs. Also launching in 2026: a pivot pin set and a gripper pin set, each sold as a set of 2 and compatible across EZ-Puller models.
Mounting Options for Nearly Any CNC Lathe Turret
The 3.0 Larger Capacity EZ-Puller mounts using the same bar options as the rest of the EZ-Puller line:
- Square mounting bars: 0.75″, 1.0″, 20 mm, 25 mm
- Round mounting bars: 1.0″, 25 mm
- Round low-profile mounting bars: 1.0″, 25 mm
If your machine uses a wedge-lock mounting system for square tooling, the body of the bar puller can cover the outboard tightening bolt, which may require moving the tool away from turret center and can interfere with machine way covers. In that case, the 1.000″ round mounting — standard or low-profile — held in an I.D. tool holder, is the better option. The low-profile bar in particular is built for tight-clearance applications where standard mounting bars won’t seat cleanly.
Built for Unattended Machining, Backed by a Real Warranty
