Frequently asked questions
There are three different sizes available.
EP-12044
This is our very popular Original EZ-Puller. It has a range of .093″ – 1.75″ for round stock. .125″ – 1.375″ for hex stock, and .125″ – 1.000″ for square stock.
EP-12045
This is our latest version. We call it the Expanded Capacity EZ-Puller. It has a range of .093″ – 2.000” for round stock and .125″ – 1.375″ for hex stock, and .125″ – 1.000″ for square stock.
BEP-1531
This is our Heavy Duty model and it has a range of 1.75″ – 3.25″. This tool is not recommended for pulling hex or square stock.
The design of the EZ-Puller is very similar to the design of a cam and lifter system in an internal combustion engine. As the grippers advance over the bar stock, two gripper arms pivot in opposite directions. This action compresses two urethane die springs which are installed between hardened steel lifters inside bores of the EZ-Puller body. The urethane springs provide a reactive force which allows the grippers to securely hold the bar stock.
Set up is very simple; mount the tool in the turret of your lathe, making sure there is clearance between the outside of the grippers and any sheet metal covers in the machine. Follow the instructions to locate the centerline of the grippers with the centerline of the machine spindle (there is a printable PDF on this page under setup instructions – just to the right of FAQ – click on your model) . Once that value has been determined, changing from one bar size to another is a matter of changing an “X” value in your program. For programming, please look at the sample program in the setup instructions on this page.
Our bar pullers are built with high-quality, hardened tool steel. The design of the EZ-Puller is very robust. There are EZ-Pullers in use today which have been in continuous operation for over 7 years, making several hundred thousand pulls. There is a 2 year limited warranty that comes with every EZ-Puller. Our warranty covers defects in material and workmanship for 2 years. Our warranty also covers all wear components including grippers.
In most cases, they will leave a mark. Please see the PDF – More information about urethane springs – located on this page. Here you will find springs that will work for your application. We recommend using the stock springs (95A) due to their strong gripping force. These springs will allow for very high pulling speeds and exceptional repeatability. There is more information about how to deal with the gripper marks in the PDF – Tips for better bar pulling – located on this page.
Yes, there are replacement gripper sets and spring sets available. Please see [replacement parts.] directly below the FAQ

The EZ-Puller can be ordered with the most common mounting bar options: 1”, 0.75”, 25mm and 20mm square, 1” and 25mm round, 1” and 25mm round low profile. The Big EZ can be ordered with 1” and 25mm square, and 1” and 25mm round. Select your mounting bar options when ordering.
Multiple pulls are used when you need to make a long part but cannot machine the whole part in one chucking. In other words, after the initial pull is made and a machining operation is performed, the part needs to be advanced so that more operations can be performed. Multiple pulls are usually used when the part to be machined is so long that it would not be practical to do it in one operation. The EZPuller will make multiple pulls with some limitations. Please see the PDF diagrams on this page listed under the part number for multiple pull data.

Mounting options
It is important that you are familiar with the machine your EZ-Puller will be used in. If the machine has a wedge lock mounting system for holding square tooling, the body of the bar puller may cover the outboard tightening bolt. If this is the case, the tool will need to be moved away from the center of the turret to access that bolt. Many times, this will cause interference with the way covers of the machine. If this is the case, the better mounting option is the 1.000″ round mounting, either standard or low profile. With this option, the tool will be held in an I.D. tool holder. Please look at the pdf diagrams below of mounting options before ordering.
